I replaced an old mechanical thermostat with this unit. What a difference! It does a terrific job of controlling the room temperature. There are 2 programmable cycles. I have it warm up the house early in the morning. It then cools things down while we are at work. It warms it back up in time for our return in the evening. Late at night, back down to conserve energy.

Weekends are separately programmable so you stay warm for longer periods of time.

My only criticism is that programming the temperatures is a serial process. In other words, you cannot select any time period to reprogram, you must step through all the cycles. I installed and programmed in 20 minutes or so. Installation instructions were very easy to follow and made perfect sense. I'm very impressed with how this unit maintains the exact temp you select. It works... what more can I say. I will add that I installed a Hunter touch screen thermostat a couple of months ago on my parents home's Trane system. There is truly no comparison between the Hunter and the Honeywell. Instructions for the Hunter were terrible. The programming is also very difficult and makes no sense for the Hunter. Overall very nice, easy install, easy to read, nice backlight, looks nice, programming intuitive but a bit tedious.

I got this at my local HD last week. My system is a heat pump with gas furnace back-up. I had no actual problem with the install (see below for perceived problem), but my existing thermostat was relatively new and the terminals were labeled using the current standard. I suggest looking at the installation guide on Honeywell's site before buying and checking-out your existing wiring to make sure it make sense. Honeywell gives a sheet of stick-on letters to label your wires (nice touch). If you have a heat pump you have to know whether the control valve switches in heat mode or cooling mode ('O' wire is cooling mode switch and 'B' wire is heating mode switch). This thermostat gets programmed but my old one had a single terminal marked 'O/B'. After a little looking I found a jumper on the electronics board inside the existing thermostat so I could figure out which system I had. I have a Trane system and it was an 'O' for whatever that's worth. Tool note: you will need a very small (about 1/16" wide) flat blade screw driver for the terminals, but if you are contemplating a DIY thermostat change, you probably already have one.

The only install problem I had was that when I switched the heat pump back 'ON' at my breaker panel, I actually switched the dryer circuit 'OFF' (hey both switches were facing the same direction when I finished). After an hour of scratching my head and checking all the connections, my wife asked how come the dryer was dead; DO-AH!

Programming is my only small complaint and the reason for four stars instead of five. It is straight-forward but a little tedious. It comes with pre-programmed settings that actually are pretty good and you only have to make small changes, but there are a lot of items to scroll through (four separate times and temps for each day). Seems like there should be an option for grouping weekdays and/or weekends.

You can set it to switch automatically between heat and AC but I'm old-school and like that I can also set it so I have to make the switchover manually. Making temporary temperature setting changes is easy by just touching the up or down arrows and it will stay there until the next scheduled change. Everything about this heater is perfect except that it is a little loud. The thermostat is very accurate and keeps the room at an even temperature. It heats faster than most other heaters even when using the energy efficient setting. The blue light is a little bit much at night but is not as bright as some have said in other reviews. Except for the fact that it is a little bit too loud, I could not find a better heater. The sound it makes is comparable to the sound of a fan on medium. If I was running the heater constantly, I would adjust to the sound. But since I use it in a manner in which it turns on and off according to the thermostat, it wakes me when it turns on even though I placed it on the other side of the room. I think I may need to return it and will wind up using a much less efficient heater simply because of the noise factor. If Honeywell updates this model and resolves the noise issue, I would not hesitate to buy it again. Duracraft DCM-200 2-Gallon Cool Moisture Humidifier

I love writing reviews of great products. Unfortunately in this case I have to write a clinker. This is a classic example of something that is created to "look" like it should do something, but does nothing. I think the main problem is that the water tray is so undersized that there is never enough water supplied to soak the evaporator pad. As someone else posted (maybe under the Honeywell branded version), the pad gets damp maybe a couple inches up, but otherwise remains dry. As a result the humidifier just doesn't do anything of any significance. I have a humidistat and have owned Hunter and Duracraft humidifiers in the past that worked, so I am qualified to make these statements.

I tried shimming up one end of the unit hoping that it might supply more water to the pad, but that did not help. Maybe the pad they supply is just too robust or is over-treated so that it will not soak up enough water, I don't know. But, I do know that this unit does not do much of anything but make noise. Even on low it is a louder than it ought to be. I should add that is is in a small bedroom maybe 12 x 10.

I decided to return this and purchase a Vicks model V3100 1.0 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier. Now that model works as you would expect a small room humidifier to work, and on low it just whispers. Recently bought this heater and straight out of the box it did not work. The heater turned itself off after about 15 seconds. The fan never worked. It did not oscillate and the unit itself looked like it might have been opened. I went to return the item following the instructions from ANTonline (where it came from), but to do that, I had to pay for my own shipping AND include a check for $10 for them to return it back to me after they had tried to repair it. These costs (as well as the original shipping charge) add up to more than the actual unit cost.

A little over a year ago I purchased this product and deployed it in the middle of a record breaking Canadian winter. I had done some research on personal weather stations and found this one to be listed in the above average consumer ratings category. I was initially drawn to this product by its fairly reasonable cost of $249 and figured it must be good quality because it carries the well known "Honeywell" name. However, I must confess that I have been somewhat disappointed in its performance over the last year.

To begin with, the setup is very cumbersome due to the programming buttons located on the back of the console and complicated steps to change settings. Once it was up and running things seemed to go well for a couple days until my remote wind instruments lost reception for a few minutes and then would not come back online until I powered down the unit. Of course this meant that I had to go through the confusing setup again. Unfortunately the console does not continue to scan for a sensor once it loses a signal. After placing my sensors closer to the base unit and using lithium batteries this problem was corrected for the most part. However, I have had to power down the unit (unplug it and take out the back-up batteries) at least once or twice a month since I put it in operation. The only good thing about this is that I have become quite good at programming it now.

Another BIG issue that I have noticed is that the remote temperature sensors tend to read 1.5 to 2 degrees F higher than the correct temperature. I know this because of have checked the sensors against other professional thermometers and have watched water drops freeze while the senor says it is 34 F at the same location. To try and correct this I bought an additional temperature sensor and field tested it against the first one. I noticed this one also read high. My placement for these sensors are per NWS standards at 5' above the ground. I have one sensor in the shade and one with a standard solar radiation shield and they still read high. I am able to correct this error with my software so that my data is logged correctly but the console reading remains off. This is a problem for a company that has been in the business of making thermostats and other temperature devices longer than I have been alive.

The other issue that is a problem is that the wind instruments are made of "white" plastic. I presume this is to cut down on solar radiation absorption which would make the other thermometer located in the anemometer read off the chart in sunny conditions. The problem I have found is in icing conditions the wind instruments will freeze up and sometimes remain in that condition for days until the temperature rises above freezing. If this instrument was made of black plastic, like that of the Davis products, a brief episode of sun would probably free it up a lot sooner. Since my instruments are located 35 feet in the air it is not feasible to climb up on a ladder every time this happens. In the last year I have had this icing problem occur 4 times with an average 2 days of waiting for the wind instruments to free up.

Some good things about this product are that it looks great and has a bright blue backlight that automatically adjust to the light of the room. It has a great NOAA weather alert radio built in, and its cost is reasonable. If you don't mind messing around with and tweaking this product then it is a good buy. I had purchased one of these units for my kids some years ago and it worked great. SO I ordered another unit recently.

The new unit has a terrible noxious smell coming from the guts of the unit when turned on - seems like the plastic in the HEPA filter or motor oil in the electric motor. After running it a few days with no change I returned this unit and recieved a new one with the same problem. I also talked to the manufacturer, KAZ, since it seemed like they got a bad batch of filters. They were willing to provide a new unit if I paid for the shipping. This fan is made fully of plastic. The plastic is slightly durable. It does not feel like cheap plastic though, but it doesn't feel like high quality plastic either.

The total height of the fan is 22", and with the handle it is 23" high. There are two fans, both the same size, and each fan is 9" in diameter.

The top fan is stuck to the handle, so in order to angle that fan up or down, you just need to move the handle forward or backward. The bottom fan is on a separate hinge, so it can be moved up or down independently. You can have one fan facing downward, and the other angled up at the ceiling, or you can have both fans angled up at the ceiling to help with air circulation.

The fans do a good job of circulating the air in a closed room, like a bedroom, but not in a room like a living room where it would have two openings (mine has an opening into the dining room and into the front door/foyer). This fan is mainly for bedrooms about 15' x 15' or smaller.

There are two fan speeds, I or II, and the off setting (O).
Regarding the noise, on setting I, the fans are somewhat quiet like a muffled whirr, but still can be heard well in a quiet room, although I can fall asleep with both fans on setting I. On setting II, the noise is kind of quiet like a muffled whirr, yet it is very noticeable, so you wouldn't want to have it on when you are trying to sleep, but you wouldn't mind it all if you had the TV on or had comapny over, or had something else to do that would occupy your mind. The noise is muffled (since it is plastic) and it doesn't sound like those metal fans because this is a plastic fan.

I use several tower fans to move air around my condo. I bought a pair of these Honeywell tower fans last year and have used them non-stop since. They work well, are quiet, move a good quantity of air for their size, and actually provide a bit of filtration as a bonus. (There is a removable filter that won't remove small particles but does catch things like cat hair). My only complaint is that the base that they sit on isn't very solid or weighty and this means the fans tend to wobble a bit. It's not really noticeable unless you bump into the fan, so it's really a minor complaint.

The fan has various settings which I've only used a few of (time delay shut down, oscillation, air speed) all of which can be controlled using the remote. I've not really used the remote much, so I can't really review how well it works.

I use this air purifier with another sister unit in a one bedroom apartment. One in the bedroom, one in the living room. Figured this was better than buying one larger one. It is working out great. I like these things better than I thought I would. Usually run them on low. Yes they do make noise. I have no problem with a constant noise when sleeping. It is changes in noise that disturb me. Besides, the one in the bedroom I set against the adjoining wall to provide white noise against the neighbor. So it helps in that regard also. They still aren't very noisy. Easy to sleep with one in the bedroom.

Honeywell HZ-0300 All Season Temperature Control Heater/Fan

Within the 1st couple of hours of use, the oscillator motor went out or only worked sporadically. For the heater, there is a temperature dial that you turn for it to kick on, and then after heating for a moment it shuts off - apparently believing it has "heated the area" sufficiently now, however it really has not! The heater fan is very weak and perhaps only heats 1-2 square feet around it. I was always upset that it seemed to auto shutdown on the heater so soon. That lasted a little while, and now the heater will not even turn on reliably, even in a cold room (50-60 F). I've owned it for less than a year and sent a note to Honeywell requesting an RMA, we'll see what happens.

It's just full of faulty parts apparently, and I'm surprised the fan still works! I don't know how the heat dial works or that it determines to shut down (temp sensor, timer, etc) but I think they should make it work like the fan... just always on and the dial just adjusts how hot the heat coils get. Honeywell HCM-800 QuietCare PermaFilter Humidifier

While not perfect (none are) it's better than previous humidifiers we've owned.

It's easy to fill and does the basics of kicking out all the water over a reasonable time frame and keeping room moisture at a fairly reasonable level. The noise is lower than other machines but still not something to be able to sleep to.

Like all humidifiers this one requires cleaning maintenance or it becomes funky. The filter does work repeatedly but periodically needs to be soaked in water, vinegar and a drop of bleach. The tray needs periodic cleaning too.

Seems like Honeywell has a huge quality control problem. I am the second person reviewing honeywell safes on this site who received no keys. No master to open it, no keys for after it is progammed. Honeywells manual and their FAQ does not address where the the keys "should" be. They also have very poor customer service. I emailed them 3 days in a row on their "customer service" contact on their website - and still no response. They can just take this useless paperweight back at this point.

No. Really. This unit is absurdly loud. And I've had several other Honeywell-aka-Kaz units in the past.

Otherwise, the operation is fine - easy to fill and use. Straightforward controls. I never have the problems others seem to have with mold on the filter, likely because I run it until the tank runs out and periodically let the filter dry out completely. (And I change the filter every 6 weeks.)
