Cheap Honeywell TH8110U1003 Vision Pro 8000 Digital Thermostat

Seems to work OK, but clearly doesn't deserve a raving review. Things I did not like:

- Need manual to set up because codes are used rather than plain English. For example code 0170 is "System Type," code 0180 is "Fan Control," 0280 is "Backlight," 0330 is "Daylight Savings," etc. There are more than 30 of these settings, some of which need to be changed periodically (e.g. furnace filter change reminder) so if you lose the manual you might as well get a new thermostat.

- Need to remove thermostat from wall to replace batteries - not so easy to do without risk of damage.

- Noisy switching

- The touch screen is not very responsive

- Honeywell advertises customer support; the manual even directs you to their web site if you have questions. But in reality they provide very little help.

Bottom line: It works as a thermostat. It has good points, but also bad points -
bad enough that I wish I'd bought a different thermostat.

Buying Honeywell HF-810 High-Velocity 3-Speed Air-Circulator Floor Fan

A very nice fan. I set it on my back porch on cool mornings to blow cool air into the house to reduce my AC bill. When I first plugged it in though, I thought the speed switch was defective. Then I realized you have to push down on it before you turn.Get more detail about Honeywell HF-810 High-Velocity 3-Speed Air-Circulator Floor Fan.

Purchase Honeywell HZ-2200 Mini Tower Surround Heater

I bought two of these to help heat cold rooms when I teach Christian Yoga at area churches...They do put out a fair amount of heat...however, one of them has begun shorting out or something, completely quitting, and I need to look into it...the other one is still going strong...Get more detail about Honeywell HZ-2200 Mini Tower Surround Heater.

Order Honeywell RTH6400D 5-1-1-Day Programmable Thermostat

I replaced an old mechanical thermostat with this unit. What a difference! It does a terrific job of controlling the room temperature. There are 2 programmable cycles. I have it warm up the house early in the morning. It then cools things down while we are at work. It warms it back up in time for our return in the evening. Late at night, back down to conserve energy.

Weekends are separately programmable so you stay warm for longer periods of time.

My only criticism is that programming the temperatures is a serial process. In other words, you cannot select any time period to reprogram, you must step through all the cycles. Not a big deal really considering that there is a manual override if you are home unexpectedly and there is a vacation override as well.Get more detail about Honeywell RTH6400D 5-1-1-Day Programmable Thermostat.

Where To Buy Honeywell RTH7500D Conventional 7-Day Programmable Thermostat

I installed this unit today on a Trane Heat Pump system. I spent 5 minutes on the phone with Honeywell's tech support to verify wiring before I started. After that... I installed and programmed in 20 minutes or so. Installation instructions were very easy to follow and made perfect sense. I'm very impressed with how this unit maintains the exact temp you select. It works... what more can I say. I will add that I installed a Hunter touch screen thermostat a couple of months ago on my parents home's Trane system. There is truly no comparison between the Hunter and the Honeywell. Instructions for the Hunter were terrible. The programming is also very difficult and makes no sense for the Hunter. Overall very nice, easy install, easy to read, nice backlight, looks nice, programming intuitive but a bit tedious.

I got this at my local HD last week. My system is a heat pump with gas furnace back-up. I had no actual problem with the install (see below for perceived problem), but my existing thermostat was relatively new and the terminals were labeled using the current standard. I suggest looking at the installation guide on Honeywell's site before buying and checking-out your existing wiring to make sure it make sense. Honeywell gives a sheet of stick-on letters to label your wires (nice touch). If you have a heat pump you have to know whether the control valve switches in heat mode or cooling mode ('O' wire is cooling mode switch and 'B' wire is heating mode switch). This thermostat gets programmed but my old one had a single terminal marked 'O/B'. After a little looking I found a jumper on the electronics board inside the existing thermostat so I could figure out which system I had. I have a Trane system and it was an 'O' for whatever that's worth. Tool note: you will need a very small (about 1/16" wide) flat blade screw driver for the terminals, but if you are contemplating a DIY thermostat change, you probably already have one.

The only install problem I had was that when I switched the heat pump back 'ON' at my breaker panel, I actually switched the dryer circuit 'OFF' (hey both switches were facing the same direction when I finished). After an hour of scratching my head and checking all the connections, my wife asked how come the dryer was dead; DO-AH!

Programming is my only small complaint and the reason for four stars instead of five. It is straight-forward but a little tedious. It comes with pre-programmed settings that actually are pretty good and you only have to make small changes, but there are a lot of items to scroll through (four separate times and temps for each day). Seems like there should be an option for grouping weekdays and/or weekends.

You can set it to switch automatically between heat and AC but I'm old-school and like that I can also set it so I have to make the switchover manually. Making temporary temperature setting changes is easy by just touching the up or down arrows and it will stay there until the next scheduled change. You can also lock it to stay there forever.Get more detail about Honeywell RTH7600B / RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat.
